The quality of our lives is dependent upon how, when, where and with whom we are free to live, love, learn, work and spend our personal time. The commune has taken responsibility to ensure that people are supported to the extent that is necessary to meet individual needs. People have the necessary empowerment and are free to:
Enjoy and exercise all the rights of citizenship;
make real choices in self-defined terms, however those choices are expressed;
enjoy friendships and other naturally supportive relationships.
Understand themselves in relation to their community
Identify the needs and problems of the community, involve them in problem solving process and develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems
Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
Develop a capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practice national integration and social harmony.
The informal educational curriculum is mainly divided into 2 parts:
1. Primary and Compulsory Training:
Language
Theology and ethical curriculum through epic stories
Dharana/ cognitive learning (like maths) & reasoning and logic through puzzle solving
Physical Training, games, yoga
Learning nature, life science, physical sc, history, geography, health & hygiene
Creative Art
2. Vocational Training – e.g. farming, clay modeling, fishery etc
It typically involves workshops, commune courses, interest based courses, short courses, or conference style seminars. The learning takes place in a formal setting such as a class room, but is not formally recognized within a curriculum or syllabus framework.
Children will be given coaching on various academic subjects and side by side classes will be organized on subjects ranging from basic hygiene and cleanliness to development of kitchen gardens to recitation and drawing.
Evaluation meetings will take place at fixed periodic intervals.
A forum will be formed for those involved in community outreach to exchange ideas and learn from each other. These services support people to live as full citizens rather than expecting people to fit into standardized models and structures.
